MDX2600 Question New to Forum

Hello Everyone...new to the forum. I have a question. I love ESSB and they way its sounds. I would love to make that happen in my shack. I have a MDX2600 hooked up to a Heil PR781 microphone with a Yaesu FT-950. What else what I need in order to make my station sound great. I was under the impression that the MDX2600 would be the only peice of equipment I needed since it was only dealing with the microphone/audio portion. Now again I am new to this and was wondering if this is possible to get started with or will I need to add additional components later. Thanks.

Hi Rick.Welcome to the forum.First, I would suggest a mic preamp,equalizer and an I-box from W2IHY.The I-box or equivellant is needed to pad down(attenuate the audio from line to mic level so you don`t overdrive the radio).The MDX 2600 compressor by itself will not give the sound you seek.Lots of good units out there depending on how much you want to spend.You might check out NU9N`s web site that explains everything on how these units work together.Hope this helps you on your way.

Can I still use the MDX2600 since I have one or is that no good for doing what I want it to do. I seen the other area's your were talking about. I will look into it further to get the other items. Thanks for getting back to me.

What is it you are trying to accomplish?The 2600 would still need a preamp in front of it as it has no built in amp to drive it.If what your asking is can I just plug the mic directly into the 2600 and get on the air,then no.

No I just thought that I wasted money buying it that is all. I will look at getting the other components and I will be good. I will be contact again. Thanks for your help.

Rick,it`s a good unit so don`t consider it a waste.When you`re able to or decide to get the other components,there will be someone to help you out.
