Here are some settings you can try. We've noticed that there are No “Generic - one setting fits all” settings out there. They are all Voice, Equipment specific. There are starting points however. But it always entails hours of tweaking to get it “Just Right”.
We’ll give you initial settings for each unit, and then describe how to set the levels between them.
MIC2200 Settings:
Input these in to your 2200. We'll list the setting from Left to Right of the unit.
These settings will be a starting point from where we'll explain the controls and what to do with them.
Since you have a condenser mic, you will notice allot of background noise.
These mics are VERY sensitive. Be ready for it.
The downward expander in the mdx2200 will help with some of that.
You will need to use the XLR cables for the microphone plus the 48V phantom power in the mic pre to power it.
LEFT CHANNEL:
1) Set the “+48 V” IN, the light is “ON” (this supplies power to the microphone)
2) Set the “MIC/LINE” pushbutton IN, the light is “ON” (this turns on the MIC mode for the XLR)
3) Turn the “MIC GAIN” Control to the 9:00 o’clock position (this is just a starting point)
4) Set the “PHASE REV.” pushbutton OUT, Light is “OFF” (don’t need this)
5) Turn the Low Cut “Hz Frequency” Control to the 12:00 o’clock position (won’t be using this)
6) Set the “LO CUT” pushbutton OUT, Light is “OFF” (don’t need this)
7) Turn the EQ “Hz Frequency” Control to the 12:00 o’clock position (won’t be using this either)

Set the “x 10” pushbutton OUT, Light is “OFF” (don’t need this)
9) Set the “x 0.1” pushbutton OUT, Light is “OFF” (don’t need this)
10) Turn the “Octave Bandwidth” Control to the 12:00 o’clock position (don’t need this)
11) Turn the “db Level” Control to the 12:00 o’clock position (don’t need this)
12) Set the “EQ IN/OUT” pushbutton OUT, Light is “OFF” (don’t need this)
13) Turn the “db Output” Control to the 0db, 12:00 o’clock position (this is just a starting point)
You will notice that there are allot of features not being used on this unit.
Most of what is not being used here will be taken care of with the EQ.
RIGHT CHANNEL:
This channel will not be used.
MDX2200:
LEFT CHANNEL:
Expander/Gate Settings:
1) Turn the “THRESHOLD” Control to “OFF”, Full CCW. (We will set this later)
2) Set the “RELEASE” pushbutton IN, Light is “ON” (This will make for a SLOW release)
3) Turn the “RATIO” Control to “2.5”, 12:00 o’clock. (Good starting point)
Compressor/Limiter Settings:
1) Set the “SC EXT” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF”. (Not Used)
2) Set the “SC MON” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF”. (Not Used)
3) Turn the “THRESHOLD” Control all the way to the RIGHT, Clockwise. (This will deactivate the compressor as you will not be using it on the Left Channel)
4) Set the “INTERACTIVE” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF”. (Not Used)
5) Set the “SC FILTER” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF”. (Not Used)
6) Turn the “RATIO” Control all the way to the LEFT, CCW. (This will deactivate the compressor as You will not be using it on the Left Channel)
7) Turn the “ATTACK” Control all the way to the RIGHT, Clockwise. (This will deactivate the compressor, as you will not be using it on the Left Channel)

Set the “AUTO” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF”. (Not Used)
9) Turn the “RELEASE” Control all the way to the LEFT, Counter-Clockwise. (This will deactivate the compressor as You will not be using it on the Left Channel)
10) Turn the “OUTPUT” Control to the “0” position, 12:00. (This will be adjusted later to get the correct Input gain on the EQ)
11) Set the “I/O METER” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF”. (Just for now)
12) Set the “IN/OUT” pushbutton IN, the light is “ON”. (This will engage this channel)
Peak Limiter Settings:
Turn the “LIMITER” Control all the way to the RIGHT, “OFF”.
(This will deactivate the Peak Limiter, as you will not be using it)
Coupler Settings:
Set the “COUPLE” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF”. (Not Used)
RIGHT CHANNEL:
Expander/Gate Settings:
1) Turn the “THRESHOLD” Control to “OFF”. (Not Used)
2) Set the “RELEASE” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF” (Not Used)
3) Turn the “RATIO” Control to “1”, CCW. (Not Used)
Compressor/Limiter Settings:
1) Set the “SC EXT” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF”. (Not Used)
2) Set the “SC MON” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF”. (Not Used)
3) Turn the “THRESHOLD” Control to “0”, about 2:00. (This will be the Starting point)
4) Set the “INTERACTIVE” pushbutton IN, the light is “ON”. (This will give a very nice smooth and transparent compression)
5) Set the “SC FILTER” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF”. (Not Used)
6) Turn the “RATIO” Control to “3:1”, about the 10 O’clock position. (This will be the best ratio to start with)
7) Turn the “ATTACK” Control all the way to the LEFT, Counter-Clockwise. (This will make the attack very quick)

Set the “AUTO” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF”. (Not Used)
9) Turn the “RELEASE” Control to about the 1:00 o’clock position. (This will give the release a slightly slow recovery)
10) Turn the “OUTPUT” Control to the “0” position. (This will be adjusted later to get the correct Input gain on the DSP2024P)
13) Set the “I/O METER” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF”. (Just for now)
14) Set the “IN/OUT” pushbutton IN, the light is “ON”. (This will engage this channel)
Peak Limiter Settings:
Turn the “LIMITER” Control all the way to the RIGHT, “OFF”.
(This will deactivate the Peak Limiter, as you will not be using it)
OK, this is it for the MDX2200.
We'll tell you how to set it up later.
Lets preset the EQ.
PEQ2200:
1) Set the “I/O METER IN/OUT” pushbutton OUT, the light is “OFF”. (Just for now)
2) Set the “AUDIO IN/OUT” pushbutton IN, the light is “ON”. (This will engage this unit)
3) Turn the “db INPUT” Control to the “0” position. (This will be adjusted later to get the correct Input gain)
4) Turn the “Hz LOW CUT” Control all the way to the LEFT, CCW. (not used)
5) Turn the “Hz HIGH CUT” Control all the way to the RIGHT, CW. (not used)
BAND 1
1) Frequency Control = 80 Hz
2) Bandwidth Control = .8 octave
3) Gain Level = +4
4) Set the “IN/OUT” pushbutton IN, the light is “ON”. (This will engage this filter)
BAND 2
1) Frequency Control = 160 Hz
2) Bandwidth Control = .5 octave
3) Gain Level = -10
4) Set the “IN/OUT” pushbutton IN, the light is “ON”. (This will engage this filter)
BAND 3
1) Frequency Control = 400 Hz
2) Bandwidth Control = 1.8 octave
3) Gain Level = -8
4) Set the “IN/OUT” pushbutton IN, the light is “ON”. (This will engage this filter)
BAND 4
1) Frequency Control = 1.6 KHz
2) Bandwidth Control = .4 octave
3) Gain Level = -4
4) Set the “IN/OUT” pushbutton IN, the light is “ON”. (This will engage this filter)
BAND 5
1) Frequency Control = 3 KHz
2) Bandwidth Control = .8 octave
3) Gain Level = +7
4) Set the “IN/OUT” pushbutton IN, the light is “ON”. (This will engage this filter)
These are just starting points and you might not even like them.
We hit key frequencies, and they will have to be adjusted.
Each Frequency has its own peculiar effects.
EX3200:
Try these settings to start out with. The best place that we found to put the EX3200 is in between the EQ and the Compressor.
Channel 1:
Shift = set to Ultra Low (Light on)
Bass processor = set to "1"
Mode = set to Soft (light off)
Auto NR = set to IN (Light on)
NR Sensitivity = set to where the LED Display just barely goes to full scale on voice peaks
Tune = set to 3.3
Process = set to Exciter
High Mix = set to "1" (be careful with this as it will introduce "Tearing" into the audio if set to high)
Solo = set to OFF (Light is out)
IN = set to IN (Light is on)
Surround = set to IN (Light is on)
Surround = control set to "1-2"
Channel 2:
Shift = set to Ultra Low (Light on)
Bass = processor set to "2"
Mode = set to Soft (Light off)
Auto = NR set to IN (Light on)
NR Sensitivity = set to where the LED Display just barely goes to full scale on voice peaks
Tune = set to 5
Process = set to Enhancer
High Mix = set to "1" (be careful with this as it will introduce "Tearing" into the audio if set to high)

OK, This aught to do it for the Voodoo Machine.
Now, on to the Virtualizer.
DSP2024P Settings:
Effect - PLATING (Shows "PLAT" on display)
Edit A - PRE.D = 0.010
Edit B - DECA = 2.358
Edit C - DAMP = 10
Edit D - SIZE = 33
Edit E - SHV.D = 32
Edit F - DIFF = 20
EQ Low - BASS = -10
EQ Hi - TREB = +16
MIX = usually around 8-15 using a single channel.
Now, for the 8USB.
8USB:
We should be using the “LEVEL 5/6” strip on this mixer.
Actually all were using it for now is a level control to drop the Line Level Signal down to Mic Level for the TS-2000 Front Mic Jack.
So this is what we think the initial levels would be a good starting point.
1) All EQ Knobs should be at 12:00 (straight up) on all the strips. Especially the “LEVEL 5/6” strip. These will not be used.
2) All AUX Knobs should be at full LEFT (CCW) on all the strips. Especially the “LEVEL 5/6” strip. These will not be used.
3) All PAN & BAL Knobs should be at 12:00 (straight up) on all the strips. Especially the “LEVEL 5/6” strip. These will not be used.
4) The “LEVEL 5/6” strip “LEVEL” knob (gain) should be at the 12:00 (straight up). This is a good starting point. If it’s too high, the PEAK LED will light up. If this happens turn the control to the Left until it doesn’t light up anymore.
5) The “AUX RETURN A LEVEL” Knob should be at full LEFT (CCW). This will not be used.
6) The “EFFECTS/AUX RET B LEVEL” Knob should be at full LEFT (CCW). This will not be used.
7) Set the “2 TK to MIX” pushbutton OUT. (Not used)

Set the “2 TK to CTRL ROOM” pushbutton OUT. (Not used)
9) The “MAIN MIX” Knob should be at 9:00. This is the control that will be adjusted to give the TS-2000 the correct amount of Audio. Consider this another Mic Gain Control.
10) The “HDPH/CTRL RM” Knob should be at full LEFT (CCW).

That takes care of the initial settings to get started. Now comes the fun part, the setting of the controls to get the desired effects.
First of all, you will need to set the gain levels between the units.
They should never peak over “0db” to avoid distortion. We keep ours at about “-3db”
The gain levels are of course set with the gain controls of the devices.
Some devices have an input control, some don’t.
Most have output gain controls, except for the EX3200 & the DSP2024P.
We will start with the MIC2200.
While your talking in a normal voice into the microphone,
Increase the MIC GAIN control to the right until you see the “CLIP” light illuminate.
Turn the control back to the LEFT until the CLIP light no longer illuminates, even when you get kind of excited and loud in the mic.
Then turn it back to the LEFT one more Click.
While you are talking into the mic, watch the LEVEL METER.
It should be peaking around –3 to 0db.
If its not, then turn the MIC Gain control until the peaks are –3db.
Let us know if you still get the Clip light lighting up under these conditions. It should not.
This is a tricky settings, as you really don’t want a lot of mic gain, this will bring up the background noise to an unacceptable level.
One trick is to run low mic gain, and then make up the output difference with the output gain control for the next unit.
Let us know what happens.
The mdx2200 has an INPUT/OUTPUT LED METER at the top of the unit, over each Channel to monitor the Input and Output Gain levels. This is switched with the I/O METER pushbuttons for each channel.
With the LEFT Channel I/O METER pushbutton pushed IN, Light is “ON”, this will show what the INPUT Gain level for Left Channel is. Increase the output of the MIC2200 Preamp, so that the INPUT/OUTPUT LED METER at the top of the unit over the LEFT Channel shows about “-3db” on voice peaks.
Now With the LEFT Channel I/O METER pushbutton pushed OUT, Light is “OFF”, this will show what the OUTPUT Gain level for Left Channel is. This is what will be going into the PEQ2200 EQ.
While monitoring the INPUT of the PEQ2200 EQ, adjust the LEFT Channel Compressor “OUTPUT” Control to get “-3db” INPUT gain on the PEQ2200.
The PEQ2200 has its own Input gain control, but no output control.
This makes it difficult to get the correct gain levels for the EX3200 because it doesn’t have any gain controls.
Just make sure the Input level of the PEQ2200 isn’t over –3db on voice peaks. It should show even lower than that on the output meter because of all the EQ cutting were doing. Don’t worry about that.
The next gain controls will be the RIGHT Channel of the MDX2200, which you will be using as a compressor.
With the RIGHT Channel I/O METER pushbutton pushed OUT, Light is “OFF”, this will show what the OUTPUT Gain level for RIGHT Channel is. This is what will be going into the DSP2024P.
While monitoring the INPUT of the DSP2024P, adjust the RIGHT Channel Compressor “OUTPUT” Control to get “-3db” INPUT gain on the DSP2024P.
This will give you a starting point.
Now, to set the Downward expander and the Compressor.
This is also assuming that you have your EQ already programmed with a curve.
We will set the LEFT Channel Downward Expander first.
Above the EXPANDER/GATE you will see 2ea LED’s. One is RED, and one is GREEN.
Adjust this expander while listening in the headphones also.
The trick is to adjust the “THRESHOLD” control to the LEFT (Counter-Clockwise) just until your background noise dies down. The RED “-“ LED will light up when that happens.
Whenever you talk into the mic, the GREEN “+” LED should light up and you should hear your audio.
When you quit talking, the RED LED should light back up and the GREEN LED will go out.
If you here it chopping up or cutting your syllables off…. you have too much “THRESHOLD” control engaged, back it to the right a bit.
Play with it until you get the best sound of your voice compared to the background noise being removed.
Check your Gains again for the PEQ2200 EQ INPUT on voice peaks.
We will set the RIGHT Channel Compressor now.
Everything is already preset. The only thing that is left is to adjust the “THRESHOLD” control to the LEFT while watching the “GAIN REDUCTION” LED’s. Turn this control until you get about
“6db” to “8db” on Voice PEAKS indicated on the “GAIN REDUCTION” LED’s.
If you are still hearing “Tearing” of the high Frequencies, Either turn in more “THRESHOLD” to the LEFT, or increase the “RATIO” a little bit to the RIGHT, until the tearing stops. You should not have more than about “10db” of Gain Reduction showing on the LED’s.
If it is still tearing, make sure the “HIGH MIX” controls on the EX3200 are not past the “1” setting, then turn down the gain on the High Freq. of the EQ a few DB.
The last thing to check will be the INPUT gain of the DSP2024P.
With the RIGHT Channel I/O METER pushbutton pushed OUT, Light is “OFF”, this will show what the OUTPUT Gain level for RIGHT Channel is. This is what will be going into the DSP2024P.
While monitoring the INPUT of the DSP2024P, adjust the RIGHT Channel Compressor “OUTPUT” Control to get “-3db” INPUT gain on the DSP2024P.
That should get you started Kyp.
We hope this helps you. We did not go into all the theory or anything like that as it is all available on the internet. This is just the bare bones set up.
