RP533 as a Compressor/Limiter?

Post by Desmoface » Mon Jan 16, 2006 9:08 am

Ok, I needs to get a compressor/limiter...I notice that the Bellari RP533 performs this function along with added voodoo powers...

Was going to get the Bheringer mdx1600..is the Bellari a better bet for its added processing ability?

I notice that Voodoo Guru is running the rp533 and another unit to take care of the compressor/limiter functions. Is the rp533 not suitable for this task along with it's other added processing effects? Thanks in advance.

Steve, using the '533 as a compressor limiter [in your application] may or may not work as you expect--I haven't tried it in that configuration. I use the MDX1400 as a limiter and down expand ONLY. The '533 is followed further down the chain to add TUBE processing after most of the solid state. In fact it's the final processor in the chain [CURRENTLY].

I'm gonna look at this from an economical stand point now. The '533 [new] is $500......a MDX1600 is $100. For the purpose for compression/limiting the '1600 is your best bet and then add the '533 later on. If cost is no issue, then by all means get the '533--you will not be disappointed. If it doesn't work as you expected, at least you'll already own it and can purchase the MDX1600 for just $100, and get everything really cookin'--'1600 for dynamix control and '533 for TUBE processing.... 8)

Hey Ozman...never thought about that..I could set the audio chain up something like this

1. mic
2. preamp
3. dsp1124
4. rp533 as compressor/limiter and added harmonix
5. ex3200 for voodoosapian type sounds

Im thinkin that might sound quite nice. The 533 would be in the appropriate place in the chain for the compressor/limiter functions and I would get that sweet bellari tube sound..

Damn, my wife is going to shoot me out of a cannon if I bring home anymore gear..Thanks again for the advice.

Ahhhh.....Voodooooooooo

The eitherical sound of Resonant Voodoo surrounds my soul,
with Sweet Silky Harmonix filling the voids of Repression.

Low Frequency fundamentals reverberate thru my very being,
Passing thru Flesh and Bone with a ravaging Subjection.

Powerful Sub-Harmonix rattling the very thread of my existence,
while Dangling me over the Majical abyss of Tonal Perfection.

It taunts me, It teases me, It excites me, It enslaves me,
It makes me listen inside the Darkness of my Reflection.

What is this Voodoo that has transposed my view on reality,
It is what I have made it to be, Perfect Audio Perception.
