Here's what I have to work with........ Yaesu FT-2000 / Icom 756ProIII / Heil PR-781 mic. With that said, I am still very GREEN into the hobby, but would like that audio that stands out, rich, clean, and provides a punch. Also, I have NO knowledge or experience with big audio equipment... (duh, or I would'nt be asking.....hihi) I have talked to a few people, and received some suggestions ............. one being, Behringer MIC2200 / DEQ2496 / EX3200, and a good dynamic mic, like the RE20. I spoke to another person today that said the DBX286A was a better pre-amp, and the SAMSON C-Valve for the money was ok also. BUT, the 1 thing he said, where I had NO experience with rack gear, it may be a stretch. I also have had those say keep it simple ......... EQ Plus from W2IHY, and try the PR-781 that I already have. I see the A/B comparison with the PR-40 and RE20..... interesting results. If there are other dynamic mics you recommend, please let me know, one advised me of the ATR-30. Well, lemme know what you guys think..... and thanks in advance. It you would like to speak direct, that would be great. 859-582-9623

Howdy Steve and welcome to the Forum!!!
Great to have you hear.
The only addition We would add would be the DEQ2496 to what you have already along with the DBX286A for a mic pre.
We feel the DBX286a is a better unit then the mic2200 although more expensive, but the MIC2200 is a great mic pre to start out with.
We've never had any experience with the Sampson unit, anyone out there mess with this one?
Also, We would add a W2IHY I-box to interface the Audio Rack to the Mic Jack of the Rig you choose to operate.
Later after you climb the learning curve of the DEQ2496, then maybe try a different Dynamic mic like the PR40 or RE20.
W2IHY is great gear, but in the long run you would be much wiser in purchasing the unit such as the DEQ2496 to begin with as it is just a little more in cost.
We would try the PR781 first, then get a different mic after you master the DEQ2496 and other units.
We don't have any experience with the ATR-30...anyone else?
Best to start small and expand after you start learning and see that there are things limiting you.
When you can identify the items that are limiting your quest for Audio Nirvana, then you have learned and are ready for the next level.
But that is just our Humble Opinion.....
Take Care,
Great to have you hear.
You should have no problem getting what you desire with this as a start.Yaesu FT-2000 / Icom 756ProIII / Heil PR-781 mic. Yes that is good advice, but the above suggestions are simple.I also have had those say keep it simple ......... EQ Plus from W2IHY, and try the PR-781 that I already have. I see that WZ5Q did a A/B with the PR-40 and RE20..... interesting results. If there are other dynamic mics you recommend, please let me know, one advised me of the ATR-30.

I still believe 'IHY gear is excellent and is great for a STRAIGHT-FORWARD approach into SSB Audio. But if you want more CONTROL over your sound, processors are required. Julius' gear are also great for interfacing to the radio.
If you have the means to, then try the 'IHY first and then, as Mike recommended, [step up] to the PRO gear. Yes, there are horror stories of RFI from time to time, but that's mainly because of poor station and/or operator setup (proper quality cabling, line isolators, RFI suppression, etc.)
Good luck and keep us updated!!
