Kenwood TS480HX

Post by KI6RJW »

Evening all. I am new to the enhanced audio world. Down the road I will be doing some enhancements on a Yaesu FT1000 MP MKV but for now, I have my TS480HX in the mobile. I love the radio and it operates great and simple to use for mobile application but I would like to widen the TX to able to widen the TX to around 3.0. Does anyone know if this is possible with this radio? Thank you ahead of time. Darryle

Howdy Darryle,
Welcome to the Forum!!!
Glad to have you here.

Unfortunately, We have not had the pleasure to play around with that fine rig. So there is no information in our records for this unit.

Anyone out there modified this rig??

I hope someone has. It is a great radio, I coupled it with the Turbo Tuner controlling the Scorpion SA680 antenna for HF and a steel whip for 6M. After I get another power supply for the Yaesu FT1000 MP MKV, I will mod that one next but since the mobile is my main rig, I was hoping to find some info. Thank you for the welcome. Darryle

I had a '480 and kept for exactly 2 days and dumped it. The receive is decent--has some quality compared to older radios such as the 570, 930, 940, etc. It's designed to be a mobile rig, so expect nothing except mobile quality audio... I'm sure if you dedicated enough some deep surgery will be involved and probably not even worth the time or effort...
