Rack order

Post by kg6pqq »

Hello all,
Been a long time reader just lurking in the shadows. I've finally decided to get some rack gear and try this out. I been on the fence between hardware and software (VST plugins). The only thing left to buy is a MIC2200. It maybe overkill but I love the rack being full. All connections are balanced unless otherwise noted.
Mic - MIC2200 LEFT PRE-AMP
MIC2200 LEFT - MDX2200 LEFT NOISE GATE
MDX2200 LEFT - DEQ2496 LEFT EQ
DEQ2496 LEFT - EX3200 LEFT UNBALANCED
EX3200 LEFT - EX3200 RIGHT
EX3200 RIGHT - DEQ2496 RIGHT MB COMPRESSOR
DEQ2496 RIGHT - MDX2200 RIGHT PEAK LIMITER
MDX2200 RIGHT - DSP1024 RIGHT PLATING
DSP1024 RIGHT - EMU 1820M CH 1 CPU
EMU 1820M CH 1 - XMTR
Of course settings are as referenced here and on NU9N's site. Let me know what you think.
Thanks

An update of sorts, in lieu of the MIC2200 which I am still on the fence on buying. The E-MU 1820M interface inline to use as a preamp then back out to the MDX2200. I was going to try the software side to see how it compares to analog gear but had to get the analog side good first. Anyhow the order remains the same with the exception of the 1820M for the MIC2200. The issue I found was if I used the 1820M standalone, I get no hum in the audio. If I hold the mic head and the body of the rack gear, the hum goes away. I smell a ground loop in the mix. My attempt at a cheap fix would be to remove the ground lug from the power splitter that I got all of the rack on. I am amazed what the EX3200 brings into the audio. The subharmonic lows that it adds is awesome. Currently I am running Starquad into TRS connectors for all except the DEQ2496 which runs a XLR to TRS cable. I put some XLR connectors on order and will be redoing all my connectors over to XLR.
