Help please on setup Gear

Post by Len »

Hi All,

What a great forum. I am new to ESSB AUDIO but sure willing to learn from
all you seasoned Vets.

I have these equipment on hand, pick up used from local music shop.

shure mic sm58
MIC2200 MIC PREAMP
DSP 1424P eq
MDX4600 Compressor
IPLUS
TS2000

Was thinking of adding EURORACK UB802 MIXER to my list but not sure if
it is needed, PLEASE EXPLAIN ?

Thanks for helping. Len, ve2wko

You will need to get the Kenwood software and a serial/usb cable too.

This makes it possible to access the DSP controls for TX and RX.

Otherwise, the DSP and TX bandwidth is limited to the default setings

SawzAll , Thanks for the reply info, but i have been doing a lot of reading here in the forum and also lots of goggle searches, i see many post say its better to use the KENWOOD TS2000 ACC2 PORT to bring the audio out because you will bypass the balanced modulator that way and their would be no limitation on your TX BANDWIDTH. my question is is that true and is it better to do it this way then just using the ts2000 mic plug from the front of the rig ?

Len,feeding the audio into the acc 2 port will give you a little more headroom but not unlimited tx bandwidth. The link SawzALL posted to dowload into the radio should get you about 3.3khz tx and 4khz rx.Now, there is a thread on the "modification maddness" section that you may have already seen regarding computer control of the audio feed and getting 7khz from it.When I had my 2000,I was graphed by K3UR doing between 80hz-3.1khz.

Hello KC7OV,

(1) nu9n kenwood ts2000 mod i have done to my ts2000 already, 3.3khz tx
and 4khz rx.

(2) you said feeding the acc 2 port will give little more headroom but not unlimited, Any idea what i should expect by going the acc 2 route and what
option you think might be better to do ?

Thats pretty much it as far as bandwidth is concerned going into the acc 2 port.Options are a different radio.

BTW - I use a TS-2000 right now.

That is the best you can do out of it unless someone hacks the software (if that will do it - it may) to get greater width.

I also run the audio thru the ACC2 port. Always better to do it that way. The only way to milk the last bit of audio quality that it has to offer.
