How to Voodoo my Yaesu FTDX9000D.....

Post by m0waw »

Hi all, and many thanks for letting me join your fantastic audio site.....
Can anyone help me out, i already have a rack set up but would like to know how is the best way of connecting it all together to try and get the best Voooodoooo audio into my FTDX9000......This is a list of the equipment i have already and what order it is setup..

MIC..........RODE CLASSIC VALVE MIC
BEHRINGER.......................MIC 2200
BEHRINGER.......................MDX 2200
BEHRINGER.......................DSP 1124P
BEHRINGER.......................DSP 2024P
BEHRINGER.......................MX 602A MIXER

all this is connected straight into the front XLR input of my 9000.....
i like the audio as it is BUT!!!!!! ive been bitten by the VOODOO bug and i think the audio needs that extra somethink special !!!!
by the way the DSP1124 is set up to JOHN NU9N's settings.

I would be very greatfull of any info that you could give me, you guys on here are doing a excellent job of pointing us newcomers in the right direction....keep up the good work......Sorry forgot tomension i will be picking up a EX3200 in the next few days, so where is the best place to sit it in the audio chain?......many thanks GAZ m0waw 73s

Howdy Gaz!
Welcome to the Forum!!

First off We know there is a Power On Mod for the FT9000 that will allow it to Transmit up to 4kc in Bandwidth.
What it is, We do not know. :(

Ok as far as the Rack line up, there are allot of other posts on the forum that explain where and why to place the individual units.
So I will just tell you the where and you can research back for the why.
Any questions after that We will be more then happy to answer!

Your line up is:
MIC..........RODE CLASSIC VALVE MIC
BEHRINGER.......................MIC 2200
BEHRINGER.......................MDX 2200
BEHRINGER.......................DSP 1124P
BEHRINGER.......................DSP 2024P
BEHRINGER.......................MX 602A MIXER

We would change it up as so...
MIC..........RODE CLASSIC VALVE MIC
BEHRINGER.......................MIC 2200
BEHRINGER.......................DSP 1124P
BEHRINGER.......................MDX 2200
BEHRINGER.......................DSP 2024P
BEHRINGER.......................MX 602A MIXER

This would place the compressor after the EQ where it should be.
This will allow you to remove any sibilance created by boosting the highs.
Also it will allow smoothing of the Low Frequencies.

The EX3200 placement would be in between the DSP1124 EQ and the MDX2200 Compressor.
This will allow the Compressor to smooth the lows.
Two things on the EX3200,
One, On a Stock EX3200 be sure you don't run more then a setting of '1' on the 'High Mix' controls or you will introduce a digital Tearing sound.
Two, Be sure to reduce the lows on the EQ when using the EX3200, if you don't, it will be boomy, muddy, and too thick.
Remember BALANCE is the key!

Good Luck and Take Care!

Hi Mike,
thanks for all the info on which order to put my audio rack in......
ive got it all back together and up and running, its sounding great :D ......the ex3200 has made a big difference. i found another post you had replied to with some helpfull setting for the MDX 2200, every thing seems a hell of a lot smoother...........ive still abit of tweaking to do and im suffering with the dreader RFI which ive still got to sort out  ........also ive been trying to track down the info that you mensioned in your replie as to the power on mod to activate the 4k bw on the 9000 but hav'nt been very sucessful, hopefully a friend of mine will be intouch with a service engineer he knows at YAESU UK and we will see if he can help...if i do find a mod for the 9000 i will let you know.
all the best Gaz..............m0waw 73s
