TS-950SDX - SSB Menu settings HELP

Post by scoobvoodoo »

Greetings !
Well i just purchased a stock 950sdx and would appreciate your expert opinions on menu and any power on mods setup for SSB TX/RX

I will be using some w2ihy eq stuff ( i know ) along with an RE-20 mic.
( At this stage i will NOT be using the 6.7kc tx bandwidth )

Basically what i need help with is settings to maximise my SSB bandwidth to get the best possible sound using the equipment i have. What sort of ssb bandwidth should i expect to achieve on TX ?

Also i read somewhere that if using any of the service menu power on mods that is can possibly effect other settings in the radio inadvertidly ??

Hopefully this post makes sense ( cause it confused the heck outta me )
thank you.

Scoob

I haven't had the privilege to own (what is considered the best transceiver Kenwood has ever produced). But there are several on the forums. Nonetheless, wanted to welcome you. I'm quite confident the VooDoo Counsel will address you inquiries.

*[snarling thru a cut eye at the 'IHY]…LOL!!--Yea, you knew alright...

Howdy Scoobvoodoo,
Welcome to the Forum and congrats on getting the BEST radio for Voodoo!!!

Were biased here at the Voodoo-LABS for the SDX of course! haha

The RE20 with the W2IHY stuff will sound great on the SDX.

The Power-On Menu settings can be found here -

http://www.nu9n.com/mods_Kenwood_TS950SDX.html

These are just Power-On Menu settings and have nothing to do with the Service Menu so you should not worry about messing anything up. You will not inadvertently mess anything up in the radio.

Also you need to set the regular MENU Items 19, 20, & 21 to the required bandwidth setting you would like.

You will have allot of control over the TX Bandwidth with the DSP bandwidth settings as well as the Analog Filter settings in the 8.83 Filter Bank as their can be allot of combination's.

On a Stock SDX, the range will be from 2.6Kc to 6.7, with a large gap in selections from about 5Kc to 6.7Kc.

Hope this made sense.
Take Care,
