So here I am recovering files from a crashed hard drive (from '06) and what do I stumble across??...several GBs of ESSB audio files I recorded of stations on air from 75 meters through 17 meters. Some of the stations include: K2WS, WO2D, AB1BQ, W9TRQ, NA1A, K5HOT, W2ONV, KV2AA, WZ5Q, KA0KA, W5UDX, KB5TUD, N3JI, W2OT, even WA1OXT--excellent sounding (unmodded) 1000MP!!

These recordings bought back great memories of when audio was in it's prime. Only makes me wonder, where the hell did it all go??!!! Recording lengths range from 10 secs to 89 minutes...--tons of HF audio. Also some examples of how the band can change and move around with 50+ signals dropping to nothing....amazing.

Radios ranging from John's (WO2D) modded FT-840 to TS-850/100 to Flex Radios and all sounding SUPERB. Even caught a couple of the fun times as well as shytty times. Most hilarious was "Straight Mic Night" on March 1st, 2006 with the '5Q and 'UDX shutting down the racks and playing narrow radio. Some QSOs with guys who said, "the human voice doesn't produce audio below 100Hz" and another who said, "...nothing above 3KHz...."

Even some recordings of myself on my infamous TS-870 and modded MP--what a difference those mods made. And I have to admit I sure as hell miss ESSB. Guess I better find a way to get active again, though most of these operators aren't as active any longer...

Dude, I have so much more to retrieve from that drive. Some are still in WAV so gonna be spending extra time converting to MP3. Found one where Gary (WA1OXT) was 55 over 9--one peg from full scale 60--on 20 meters. Needless to say....FULL QUIETING!!! Obviously one of the BEST sounding unmodded 1000MPs--AB1BQ's MP is another. These guys had something going real nice....and I have the files to prove it...LOL!!

You know, that's one of the reasons I'm skeptical of a return to the airwaves. But the bands are active, just not with the strength of ESSB anymore. My restrictions are still in place here, but hell, I wanna get back on the air and play Audio--time to rally the troops??

Well, yea there is activity out there, but dude...
You know as well as us that Audio is best played with 40 to 60db over signals and that aighnt happenin on the bands right now. So most the Audio heads are just lurkin out there.....waitin.....

If We don't have at least a 20db signal on ya, We aighnt even bothering keying up. There are some that hold that rule for 40db!!

Of course there are exceptions to that 'rule'!!

Remember when 10 meters was active and we had 60db over signals????
Wow, incredible Audio, you could hear the guys nose hairs twitch!

Come on SUN!!!!!

I was listening to TWIAR podcast and they mention increased activity to as 24 starts up. Who knows what it'll bring. I know there are nights when 160M is hopping and I just listen to regular QSOs into the night while doing crap on the PCs. In the mornings, 40M and 20M are playing well. But I keep in mind one of these online (streaming) receivers is in VA. and the other in NJ. Either way the bands do play pretty well from what I've heard.

Time will tell. Just very disappointing to hear the archives in their wonder and today it's almost dead silence from those who brought it to the front seat. I'm still motivated to bring it on...
