I am asking for trouble using a rack mounted fan!

Post by JJ2013 »

Hi y'all Audio Heads and Gurus!

I am on my way to getting various pieces for my audio rack and fell to pondering the need for a rack mounted fan. There's a dime dozen out there but I am somehow reticent about the whole idea as fans may introduce "noise" that I really don't want in my set-up.

Sure would appreciate recommendations about this and sharing of your experience!

Cheers!
JJ

Hi JJ,

If you have some tube driven equipment in the rack and the tubes are a bit "microphonic" than yes the rumble of the fan could interfere with your audio.

Another noise related problem could be that the microphone self is picking up the fan noise of course, but maybe the rack is closed with a nice door and pretty soundproof.

Cheers,
Chris

I am asking for trouble by using a rack mounted fan?

Hi,

I appreciate the response. Yes, I will be using a Behringer MIC2200 mic pre-amp with a tube in it. The rest of the equipment (including noise gate) should be able to minimize noise pick-up by the mic itself.

Thanks again for getting back!
