Going wide for FM

Post by KA5BBC »

While getting better, deeper, wider, sexier sound of SSB is the goal of this side of the hobby I am interested in applying the principles and techniques to all voice modes - even those nasty digital ones.
As most of the modern rack equipment is either easy to adjust or has a memory function the prospect of switching between 6khz, 10-15khz, and whatever other bandwidths might apply is less trouble than it may seem.
I am used to having a 38khz slot to play with in broadcasting but the principles remain the same.
Do any of our gurus have further advice in this area?

Howdy,
Sorry for the big delay in the response, life's issues prevailed.

Unfortunately, We've not played in the area of FM. We used to talk to a group in Dallas, TX about 350 miles from here on 2m FM Simplex. That's the avenue they took, tweaking there audio on FM and they had some beautiful audio.

Take Care,

I should now apologize for the late response..

I have wired the rack to my Kenwood TR-751A 2m multimode and all the comments I receive are positive with some describing the audio as FM stereo broadcast quality or better. I think it helps that this radio has a good audio section to start off with.

So now I know that applying the same techniques and equipment across the analogue modes works well, however, I suspect that digital encoding/decoding will take a lot out of the input signal.
