Well, I finally ordered and installed a 303/U. Let me just tell everyone it is the cats meow!!! On the average, my noise floor dropped by 2db; I caught myself troubleshooting my RF gain because the typicall hiss didn't sound loud enough. Those pesky little static crashes, well, I do not think there ...

Curt, Well, N8RWS definitely lays it right out in the open, how to modify the TS-940 for ESSB. In his write up he cascades an Inrad #475 4Khz and an ICOM FL-257 3.3Khz filter, achieving 11Hz to 3.6Khz audio band-pass on his transmit. And what is really cool about all of this is that the TS-940 has a...

Bow, I will look it over when I get home. I wouldn't try and swap out anymore components just yet. I think the setting of low end and the high end is a function of the crystal alignment procedures within the service manual, at least that is what I gather at this point. So if I am right, you would ha...

Bow, Do you have any schematics for this rig that are more readable than the ones in the service manual? Judging by what I have seen thus far, that radio can is capable of 250hz to 5Khz in transmit bandwidth. The question is how to adjust or modify it such that you blow past the 250Hz limit and get ...

Curt, Unless my information is old, and someone found a secret menu that can be tweaked, the last I heard the Yaesu FT-2000 has a transmit bandwidth of 2.9 to ~3K; the lowest audio freq possible with some heavy EQ'ing was reported to be 60Hz. Now its receive is capable of a whopping 4Khz, woohooo :r...

Curt, Welcome to the forum, and happy to hear that the big ESSB bug bit you!!! The way you view SSB will never be the same from now on. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with either of the rigs that you have mentioned. However, that doesn’t mean that it is not possible to take either of them up a not...

Yep, Stupid 'Puters. But unfortunately we need them in order to monitor our stations, tweak our audio, and harass pinheads. I just spent the last two hours obtaining and installing a new fan for mine, the main one went out last night, and fixing a loose power connection to my DVD-RW drive; have to w...

Let's think about star grounding for a second; if you use the tuner as the center point and take all of your equipment grounds to the tuner, isn't that the same thing as using your ground buss bar as the center point and taking all of your equipment grounds to the ground buss bar? Both methods creat...

Kyp, Manufacturing your own ground buss bar is the way to go. Copper would be the best material, but aluminum should work as well. I would use at least 3 ground rods, spread no less than 8' apart from one another in some sort of a line. You are trying to create an RF ground, not just a DC ground. Th...
