It has to do with "microphonics" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microphonics Triple mica means that the tube has an extra support plate of mica inside the tube and this helps to prevent microphonics (noise). Here is a nice video on that subject. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx0G_ObVwn4 If you googl...

A nice video on YouTube, testing the 12AX7 tube, amazing difference in some brands.
(Warning: after watching this video you probably won't enjoy a certain Gary Moore track any longer  )

Hi Ariel,

The 950 is a heavy piece of equipment, if you are planning it for mobile operation (just visited your QRZ page): it's no use trying to mount it into a Toyota
Just kidding, hope the purchase will work out, than there is some modifying to do of course.

Very helpful thread, tnx. Was fine tuning the equipment but not getting the result I hoped to achieve. Most settings in the menu were OK but now learned a few extra settings and on the TX monitor (modified 950) the result is satisfactory :supz:

I inquired with a fellow ham bud/Electrical Enginneer of mine in regard to grounding the clip. His suggestion, if it's less than 6ft. don't bother shorting it to ground. Installing .001 bypass caps on inputs are still suggested. I already soldered the clips in the XLR connectors, but thanks for the...

Re: Ripple

One word of importance for you... The 22uF, 400V Cap (C10) needs to be a Long Life, High Ripple capacitor. This is due to the high voltage amplitude of the switcher it sees all the time. We usually use a Panasonic EE Series capacitor for this purpose. If you do not use one like this it will surely ...

Tnx for your input !Kant. It occurs on several frequencies, 10 meters but also on 40 meters I discovered lately. The cables are home brew, bought good cable and Neutrik XLR connectors. Will go through all the connectors and connect the chassis clip to the shield connector and see what happens. If th...

I installed the Furmann Power conditioner, works fine, but didn't get rid of all RFI Issues. The audio cables (XLR) are self made. I didn't connect the earth/shield wire to the chassis soldering clip (if you know what I mean) Just connected the shield to pin 1. To get rid of "ground loops" RFI would...

Thanks VooDoo Guru for clearing that up. I have got a Behringer MX882 and will certainly try to hook it up as described, as they say the proof is in the pudding so will try a taste of that.

Introduced the Lexicon MX400 in the audio chain. Must say, it sounds good on the earphones and through the 870 in monitor mode. Lots of different effects in this little box, some outrageous effects which I will not use on the 870, sounds like an alien got hold of the mic, HI. Using the small plate e...

Good Reverberations?

Was thinking about a reverb unit as a last addition in the audio chain for just a little pinch of reverb effect. The TC Electronic M350 is an affordable unit, the Lexicon MX200 has good reviews as well. The TC Electronic M3000 is even better, but is rather expensive. Has anyone tried one of the abov...

How to scope your signal

I was wondering: is there an easy way to monitor your signal on a scope?
Found a web site: http://www.cleanrf.com/
Could one of these parts be of any use or is there an easier/cheaper way?

Have some RFI issues, especially on 10 meter. Thanks for pointing me towards Furman. Learned from their website that there is also a European version, suitable for our 220-240 volts http://www.furmansound.com/product.php?div=03&id=ClassicSeries_Export As I see it on their info page: three versions. ...
