Low-End-Fearin'??

Over the years I've found it interesting (even borderline mind-boggling) that MOST SDR users don't play with much low end in their audio. Many roll off heavily between 150-100Hz. With the starved exception of operators such as, Jeff N8RWS (who sounds phenomenal), others seem as though it's cardinal ...

I've yet to hear a '7300 properly "tweaked" for Mid-Fi SSB audio. For the record, it's not a terrible sounding transceiver (minus it's TXBW hurdle). Monitoring many of them over the air, I was pretty surprised when operators revealed they were using the stock hand mic. As always, in the proper hands...

It's really refreshing to step back in time via these posts. 9 Years later the same struggle continues. Though, many more stations are sounding more pleasing with a "fuller"/robust roundness to their sound. But now the ridicule can also come from another type [as I've witnessed]--the SDR crowds, not...

(I know, old post) But, I did have a question in regard to ALC. When monitoring the ALC on the '870, are you checking it while the transceiver is at FULL output power??

Welcome to the VooDoo. Glad to see you're building YOUR sound--equipment list looks pretty good. It's rare to catch many of the eSSB operators on the air, but when we do, it's a PLEASURE to hear those sounds for sure. Will you be modding the 850/100 or keeping the set stock?? Good luck on the Extra ...

Agreed (100%) Guru--it isn't INSTANT breakfast. Many people do give up...most of them before they really get started. (I know of many who have gone head-first into virtual audio, then quit within a couple weeks, returning to their more familiar 'IHY or Behringer components.)

There is a reason why Flex SDR's are popular. They yield very good eSSB results, but of course in the proper hands. The SDR-1000 can still sound leaps better than the 1500/3000/5000. I've heard more of Flex's 6k series, but most of the ops I've listened to just widen their TX bandwidth to 9kHz and d...

Currently not in a position to record video, though I would really be interested in doing so. A couple of years ago I did over the air comparisons of the impact of virtual audio. Showcased Bypass, ESSB and DX Modes with audio parameters of the DAW I was using. Listening stations (on 10 and 17M at th...

Again, I'm late to the party. :? But, I ONLY use the front audio jack for monitoring and recording. I can not recall any reports of sonic differences between the rear audio output jack and the front audio jack. If there is a difference, it's probably nominal.

It's such a heartbreak I did not see this post 2 years ago. I started incorporating DAWs into my audio chain in March of 2014. Within weeks all my rack has been placed into storage. Since then, I play radio from time to time and when I do, you better believe my DAW is front and center. I'm still an ...

I know this post is well over a year old, but I just have to add something. I wondering what Shift you were using?? Since stepping into Virtual Audio Processing, I've been able to get 4.2kHz at a Shift of 0Hz-3000. At a Shift of 100-3000 I've hit 5kHz.

There are a few FREE recording software on the net. The most popular is still Audacity. Personally, I've been using Sound Forge for over a decade now and it great since it allows the user to save into just about ANY audio format. And editing is a breeze.

Or you can spend a little cash for an SDRplay ($149) and HDSDR (FREE), install on a computer, connect a little rinky-dinky indoor antenna, TX at low power into a Dummy Load and listen to YOUR audio over the receiver. Sure there is a minor delay (of about 0.5 seconds), but you can listen ANYWHERE you...

I believe the issue is using the AF Output on the BACK of the rig. Try using the Headphone jack on the front of the MKV. (I'm sure you've figured it out after all these months, or threw everything back into storage and avoid the headache...LOL!!)

I wish I could provide a definitive answer to this. But as far as I have HEARD, the '590 is locked in at 3kHz. Not sure if there is any pursuit or experimentation of extending the TX Bandwidth. I still stand solid on the AUDIO performance the '870. Since going full-forward with VIRTUAL Audio/DAW, I'...
