1) For TX in SSB modes, I don't think you need to bypass the 455Khz filter when you have the DSP unit on. The DSP unit is effectively doing the 1st IF filtering for you (the balanced modulator isn't used). You do want to put the 8.83Mhz filter in the bypass position (that filter is used both with an...

If I really did rock, I wouldn't have botched the part number for C136, twice. (Once I called it Q136 and the second time I called it C147. This is what I get for typing too fast at work. I went back and fixed things up.) As for sampling the audio, I'm not quite sure. I mean, you can sample the audi...

I got curious so I dug out my PDF of the 440 service manual and took a look. From what I can tell, the audio input from the ACC2 port (pin 11) goes to J25 on the IF unit. From there it goes through J23 to the mic gain knob on the front panel. Then it returns back to the IF unit before going to C133 ...

The "C131 mod" only applies to the TS-870. You can likely to something conceptually similar to the TS-440, but it will likely involve more than just one cap, and the part numbers will be different. Start with the schematics in the TS-440 service manual and just follow the audio path from the ACC2 po...

I have a couple of questions: 1) How are you connecting the output of the MIC2200 to the radio? I know you're connecting to the ACC2 port on the back of the rig, but what I'm asking is how exactly did you cable up the MIC2200 preamp to the ACC2 plug? 2) What band(s) does the squeal occur on? I don't...

I mentioned this in reply to your e-mail, but I'll repeat it here for the benefit of others. There are a couple of well-known problems with the TS-950SDX that can result in distorted audio. Usually the problem is that the TX audio in single sideband modes sounds raspy or warbly. The severity of the ...

First, get a copy of the TS-440S service manual. I think there's several PDF scans of them out there on the web which you can find with minimal googling. I also have this one: http://people.freebsd.org/~wpaul/station/TS-440S_Service_Manual.pdf Follow the ACC2 audio input path (which if I remember ri...

On AM mode, with the KA0KA mods (feeding the modulator directly and bypassing the 8.83MHz and 455KHz IF filters), you should be able to get about 9KHz to 10KHz of audio bandwidth. On SSB... well, you shouldn't operate the rig like this on SSB. You really need the DSP-100 unit. In "analog" mode, the ...

Okay, in regards to the INRAD filter documentation, I'm not sure what's going on there. The photo shows that it's mounted on a plug-in board. The only reason I can think of to remove that board is if you wanted to mount the filter in place of one that's already soldered into the radio. Some rigs did ...

Menu 19 does in fact work in SSB mode, including the BPF settings. It may also work in CW mode, though I don't remember off the top of my head, and I'm not in front of my radio right now so I can't test it. I know it does not work in AM mode. This is because the DSP unit is not used for AM receive f...

Oh, I almost forgot something. There's another menu setting which may be handy here. If you look at the owner's manual, section 4-2-13, they describe the "Power ON" menu functions. These are basically preference settings which you normally don't need to change very often. You have to press and hold ...

Okay, I guess I misunderstood. When you mentioned the AM filter, I thought you were interested in AM operation. The way the SDX works, it comes from the factory with 6KHz and 2.7KHz filters pre-installed in the 2nd IF stage. The computer forces the use of the 2.7KHz filter on SSB on transmit, and th...

There's a couple of problems with what you want to do here. You state that your goal is to widen your AM response. That being the case, filter #475 is not going to help you at all. In fact it's going to make things worse. An AM signal is composed of three pieces: the carrier, an upper sideband and a...

(I know this question has been languishing for a while, but I only just noticed it. I figured I may as well chime in.) The phase reversal feature on the MIC2200 basically flips your audio waveform upside down. It's sometimes used for noise cancellation in pure audio applications (audio engineers som...

You left out some information: - You said you changed settings in menu options 20 and 21, but didn't say just what settings you tried. - You didn't say what means you used to evaluate the audio. FYI, I recently started having trouble with the DC-DC converter circuit in my TS-850 as well. (Luckily I still have that dusty old TS-950SDX backup radio to tide me over. :) ) While deciding what to do to it, I stumbled across this article: http://oz1bxm.dk/TS850/ts850-repair.html It states that the...

Hm, I dunno, that's a tough one. I see there are mods for the 775DSP to open the TX bandwidth up to 4.5Khz. That's pretty good, but the TS-850/DSP-100 combo will do about 6Khz, so it wins in that department. It also has an advantage on the RX side since the DSP-100 is used for both transmit and rece...
