From Gearslutz: "Replacing the ceramic input cap with polystyrene does wonders. To extend the low end, use 1 uf caps in place of the 2 .22 uf caps, use mylar or polypropylene if they fit. Capsule polarization voltage is a bit low around 40~42 volts. Replace the 6.2v zener diode that feeds that circu...

Well Dave, it works pretty well as far as a mic in its price range. Great uncolored response is the real plus. Being a condenser mic it tends to be too sensitive and picks up every little possible noise or sound in the room: computer fans, powers supply fans, etc. But a very flat response that is ea...

The 802 wouldn't be my first choice; but it will do. It has phantom power for a condenser mic. I run with the MXL condenser mics. Lotta bang fer the buck! MXL also released a new line of broadcast/dynamic mics, but I haven't tried any of them out yet.

Congrats on the 870!

I've run a Flex SDR-1000 w/just a condenser mic and preamp.

SSB width is 9999 hz and astounding audio both on receive and transmit.

A real voodoo radio if ther ever was one.

Skullman has heard it and talked to me; he can verify.

You can buy a 13 pin DIN plug - or ACC2 plug - from eBay shipped for $5.

Doesn't help you to know that now; but maybe if there is a 'next time' . . .

Very nice!

Have to hook up the TS-2000 and take this idea for a spin.

I knew there was a way to manipulate the DSP; thanks for the work!

BTW - I use a TS-2000 right now. That is the best you can do out of it unless someone hacks the software (if that will do it - it may) to get greater width. I also run the audio thru the ACC2 port. Always better to do it that way. The only way to milk the last bit of audio quality that it has to off...

You will need to get the Kenwood software and a serial/usb cable too.

This makes it possible to access the DSP controls for TX and RX.

Otherwise, the DSP and TX bandwidth is limited to the default setings

Was thinking about one of these mic's, Did you ever get a audio clip? No; too many other fish to fry. If you go that route with this mic, pop a Jan 4024 tube in it. That should be a direct replacement for the cheap Chinese 12AT7 that comes with it from the factory. Or; you could use the same tube t...

Well, since it is a condenser-type mic element - you will have to plug the mic into the mic preamp, TURN THE "PHANTOM POWER" SWITCH "ON", and then adjust the mic gain and output knobs up until you are seeing output on the meter. This mic wouldn't be my choice for Ham broadcast app; but it might work...

Re: open for mic inputs

Hi Gang, After using the heil pr-40 for 2 years I must admit. I HATE THIS FRIG"N MIC. The preamps can't give it proper gain,I tried several, The hhb radius 20 is the only eq that i found will tame the lows and the proc effect is so small I need a neck brace to talk on the radio. I'm looking...

Just two possibilities come to mind - to me. One, is that the antenna SWR is outside of the range of its ability to tune the antenna you are using. Second, since the SWR cannot be found acceptable by the radio after the antenna tuner failed to tune the antenna; the radio will fold back the output po...

Well, I think that high quality audio use with Ham radio is an idea that took long enough to get here. It is practical as well as expanding the knowledge base of Ham radio operators. It has brought something that it needed desperately. With not so much Moooohuuhohahahaaa either. He just likes doing ...

Sounds like you are on the right track to me. One other thing . . . Using ferrite beads on EACH cable in the chain is a necessity - IMO. I run a 100w or less; but still RF was leaking into the sound chain. I use Mogami cable to boot; so it wasn't the cable's fault When I put them on (about $2 a pop)...
