Yes, you are correct in regards to radios that brickwall the TX audio, especially Icom rigs. The 870 can be manipulated via certain upper end eq frequencies to push it. I am not sure exactly what the proper term is for it, but it is like cascading or layering them. For instance, using an eq frequenc...

Go to NU9N.com. Point over to the TX Setup, click the Audio Response Tutorial. Hopefully, this should help you understand the difference between TX bandwidth and audio bandwidth.

I use the DEQ2496. You might try the DSP1124. I am not sure if it is still in production but they are available on Ebay.

Well, the 2200 could be used for compression on one channel and noise gaiting with the other but your DSP 110 already has a noise gait in it. The 2024 has many features but used for the plating effect and both channels are tied together. How to do that is explained in the Studio X audio racks sectio...

Tube Pre

I believe Dave is referring to the preamp EH makes that uses the ay7 tube. Another neat little unit is the Bellari MP-105 that is no longer made but can be had if you search. They mount the tube externally for easy tube rolling. Bellari 220 can be found usually reasonable too.

I used the smaller tube mp version of this years ago. It was ok for what it was. The V3 function is nothing more than a set of fixed eq parameters.

Assistance on eq for TS-870

The settings work really good. Going out to almost 3.6k according to Spectra Plus. I believe, as you stated, the 2496 does restrict going any further than that. May get another 1124 or try an analog unit but I like the other features the 2496 has.

Assistance on eq for TS-870

Greetings. I have a TS-870(50 mil) and would like to try pushing the bandwidth beyond, if possible, the 3.2khz I was graphed at. Currently using the DEQ2496 but can change to another eq if necessary but need to know what ballpark frequencies are needed in the highs to do this.

870 and condenser mics

Hi JJ. The screens that are located within the metal mesh that houses the mic element. I have never experienced any RFI with any of the mics I use. I hang out on 10 meters in the afternoon on 28.310 bs`ing with some local friends. Drop by if it the band is open in your area.

870 and condenser mics

Greetings. I use one (MXL 990 with screens removed) and yes, they pick up EVERYTHING around you and using a pop filter is a must!. But this can be solved using a noise gate/downward expander (one of the nice features with the DEQ2496 and with most compressors, though it would be better to use an ext...

Greetings. There is a cable for the acc2 port you can get on e-bay: Kenwood Interface Adapter DC-02P. I use one on my 870. Works great! No hassles trying to solder up one yourself. Menu settings as follows: 27 & 28 set your TX bandwidth, 63 set to ACC2 (should be set already by default), 66 sets the...

Yes you can though not much of a noticable difference will happen as it does not bypass the radios mic preamp section.

Additional info.Going into the "patch" connection does not bypass the the radios mic peamp section unlike other rigs so you are not going to gain much unless you go direct into the balanced modulator.Info available on how to do that is covered on this site.

Scoping your signal

Seen a video on "You Tube" instead of using rf sniffers,he just wrapped a piece of stranded wire around the coax then to the input of the scope.
